DAVID FRANKEL
David Frankel was born and raised in a traditional Yiddish family within the uniquely preserved Jewish community of Antwerp, Belgium. Immersed in a culture of daily praise and singing, music was a deeply ingrained part of his life from an early age.
During his teenage years, amidst a period of extreme isolation, David’s bond with music deepened significantly. He came to feel more at home within a piece of music than anywhere else.
At seventeen, circumstances and personal conviction finally aligned, enabling him to embark on a decisive journey to learn music and share his God-given talents. After receiving a guitar from loyal friends for his birthday, he began exploring guitar music and discovered the enchanting world of classical guitar repertoire. While studying at a Yeshiva in Israel, he sought out a classical guitar teacher and found Guy Meir. Committed to his goal, he traveled an hour and a half each way weekly for lessons. Determined to advance his skills, he set the ambitious goal of gaining admission to a higher education music institution by the start of the next academic year.
Fueled by passion and determination, David’s year of intensive and disciplined study culminated in his acceptance into the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp for a Bachelor of Music program. While in Belgium, he made the most of the local classical guitar scene by studying privately with renowned musicians Jan Depreter and Johan Fostier, from whom he learned exceptional guitar technique.
After a year, David felt a strong pull back to Israel, where he continued his studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music. While in Israel, he developed a unique relationship with the esteemed conductor Anita Kamien, performing as a soloist with the Hebrew University Orchestra. Through the Kamiens, David was introduced to a deeply heartfelt approach to performing classical music, influenced by the Schenkerian school of music analysis.
David chose to remain in Israel, dedicating himself to further developing his talents and sharing his expertise with the music-loving community. He performs in concerts, serenades at events, and offers individual lessons and educational programs in Jerusalem. Additionally, David founded the Science of Music School, which offers opportunities for everyone to develop advanced musical skills.
Committed to the music of his heritage, David arranges the Chassidic songs of his childhood in his classical style on the guitar, reinterpreting them with the warm sound of the classical guitar.
He plays a handmade guitar by Christopher Dean from Oxford, which David adores and describes as his "best find, a match made in heaven."
Hire David to play for concerts, simchas, dinners and other occasions where soft, elegant music is wanted.
